  The beef rib is amazing totally falls off the bone, melts in the mouth & the sauce is amazing. Ive been googling recipes ever since.
  Staff are lovely & atmosphere is so relaxed. Wish this place was on my doorstep, would travel from London to eat at this place, love it...

  I have been going here since moving to Basingstoke 9 years ago and often taking visiting friends for dinner. What a shame the food has degraded so much of late. Last two visits the food was "technically Ok" in that it was cooked properly and served smartly, but my goodness the quality of the food has floored to cheap and nasty. I had wild boar sausages and on arrival I queried whether they had brought the right dish. It may have had a few molecules of wild boar in it but it tasted like the pink mush value sausages of the 1980's. On prior visits its sausages had always been good meaty premium sausages. Not now it seems.
  My visiting guest had the beef madras curry. Nicely presented but he said the sauce was watery gritty curry powder and the beef chewy low quality. I had put the prior disappointing visit was down to a one off. Alas it seems low quality food is the new norm.
  The saving graces were the service - usually good and still good - the choice and quality of drinks and the physical environment.
  As it is within walking distance I will still go for a nice walk there and a good pint, but Dinig there either solo or taking guests along regrettably become a thing of the past.
  Quite gutted really.

  Went here for an afternoon Sunday roast
  
  It was quiet so our order was taken and served quickly, prices are good and portions are good, the garnish and vegetables didnt taste very good but overall it was nice.
  
  The gardens could be maintained a bit better thoough, didn't look like they looked after the lawn very much.

  Always great service and quality here. It gets busy just for that reason, but who minds sitting in the sun in a beautiful garden with a perfectly chilled pint? (Or 3!) Great craft ciders :-)
